Regular readers will know that I have, over time, made reference to the Trans European Network - Transport (TEN-T) and the invasiveness that these transport 'aspirations' will have on transport generally in the UK.
Courtesy, once again, to The Albion Alliance Presents we learn today of a study(s) undertaken in regard to the "separation of accounts of railway undertakings and rail infrastructure managers" (hell of a title - no?). Anway, accessing this study we find:
"The studies are subject to a disclaimer and copyright. The studies have been carried out for the European Commission and express the opinions of the organisations having undertaken them. The views have not been adopted or in any way approved by the European Commission and should not be relied upon as a statement of the European Commission's views. The European Commission does not guarantee the accuracy of the information given in the studies, nor does it accept responsibility for any use made thereof.
Copyright in these studies is held by the European Union. Persons wishing to use the contents of these studies (in whole or in part) for purposes other than their personal use are invited to submit a written request to the following address: European Commission - Mobility and Transport DG - Library (DM28, 0/36) - B-1049 Brussels or by electronic form."
Yup, the entire study is subject to copyright, which precludes me from posting any extracts (and having upset Blogger once, I suppose I had better not do it again!) Scrolling down the subjects covered one finds quite a few interesting topics, especially in regard to the Railway Act 2005 (item 1.4 of the Great Britain paper) in relation to Directives 2001/12, 2001/13 and 2001/14. Needless to say the last government did not believe in truth or transparency!
What is amazing is that the EU Commission should feel the need to impose a copyright restriction on what are only studies - although no doubt these studies will herald a whole raft of further directives, including a harmonized register of train drivers, in the years to come complete with the additional layers of bureaucracy required.

Fie and forfend, Dear Wittering, I do believe you are querying the very virtues and truthfulness of the Magic Roundabout, otherwise known as the European Commission!
You couldn't possibly extract, from those few pages, a plan to harmonise everything bar the times at which I take a dump!
For shame, Sir! Anyone would think that we weren't told that we were entering a political and monetary Union; instead of just a trading entity!
