Deputy Prime Minister's Questions

An interesting exchange took place yesterday at the above between Peter Bone and Nick Clegg (beings at 11:25), one which for some reason did not seem to gain the interest of the MSM.
Peter Bone:

"Mr. Speaker, would the Deputy Prime Minister agree with me that you cannot put a cost on democracy and establishing the principle of a referendum might allow us to have further referendums on something like the European Union?"
Nick Clegg:

"I certainly accept my Hon. Friend's premise that we should always stand ready to provide the British people to have a say on issues which are of overwhelming national concern......"

Translation of Clegg's response: Yup, but only when we say you can!

Don't you just love a democratic system that elects representatives whose prime job is to reflect the wishes of the people?

I seriously doubt that the 'democratic system' of which we witter has ever actually represented the likes of thee or me!

Or anyone other than their Party or 'Special Interest Groups.' The 'Common Man?' Forget it...

TGM: Seconded! Probably like you I find it so frustating when policos talk about democracy without any intention of actually practising it!

Basically it's his usual dismissal - he does not allow recognition of the fact it is an issue of overwhelming concern.
It's just the same as "the science is settled", pretend there is no concern or dissent.

W42: Agreed.
