"A decent meal and a good choice of wines are indispensable" & "I hope that this does not mean that my first class travel will be curtailed"

A comment on the latest idea that comes from Brussels - where else? EurActiv reports that it has been suggested EU Commissioners and other officials enter the 'buy and sell' carbon credits scam, but on a personal basis.

Needless to say this is being suggested as a way to save on expenditure and cut costs - and the irony is that this was presented, by Connie Hedegaard, the EU's climate commissioner, on April 1st, although said irony no doubt passed clean over her head! Also it never probably entered what passes for her brain that, if she really wanted to save on expenditure and cut costs, the one decision that would accomplish that which she seeks to achieve would be the disbanding of the whole EU project.

The most telling comment comes at the end of the EurActive report:
"A senior EU official who refused to be named said: "  I welcome the proposal. Flying a lot can be a strain and is environmentally unsound. However, I hope that this does not mean that my first class travel will be curtailed. When taking the EU message to far-flung places, a flat bed, a decent meal and a good choice of wines are indispensable." (emphasis mine)
C'mon EurActiv - name that bastard, please!

PR: More than likely, however it would be nice to know who the idiot was who actually said that!

I'm sure the EU are competent enough to find the miscreant out, if they were allowed a multimillion pound(the other thing is increasingly worthless) budget and fifteen years or so...
