Yet another quote of the day

"We may no longer be the nasty party, but I do not want the new party that I understand some people are trying to form -a strange permanent coalition of Conservatives and Liberals - to get the reputation of being the party of nasty surprises"
Nothing like kicking a woman when she's "Home"!

One problem with trying to become a 'non-nasty' political party is that the truth is too often highly unpalatable, so telling it as it is leads to political problems for the teller.

Liars and two-faced pedlars of nonsense climb the greasy pole and truth-tellers lose out every time. So, as the theory of evolution dictates, the truth-tellers become extinct.

Tufty - as fine and succinct a summary of the political scene as I have ever read. Thank you!

If I have any hope at all it is to be found in "The Selfish Gene" by R.Dawkins, in the chapter entitled "Good Guys Finish First". Worth a read...

Caratacus - thank you - I will try Dawkin's book. By the way, last year I took a few photos of your stone on Exmoor - found it very atmospheric.
