Define the Big Society is the cry

Ok, in as few words as possible:
"BS is BS"
Translation for those that require it:
"Big Society is Bull Shit"
To paraphrase James Forsyth on the Coffee House:

If Cameron wants to make the public understand BS all he needs to do is give them copies of his previous speeches and his party's 2010 general election manifesto!

The Big Society is a dishonest way for Cameron to keep pumping money into quangos and fake charities. That way the government can continue to nanny, nudge and hector the public while pretending that the ideas come from the public.

W42: You disappoint me. I did not write what was supposed to be a combination of sarcasm and wit for you to then post a serious comment! (Joke!)

Ok then WfW:
The big society is a latter day copy of a programme called the 'Great Society' introduced in the USA by Lyndon Johnson during the 60s, itself taking ideas from John F Kennedy's 'New frontier' initiative.
This name; 'Great Society' was used (cynically) by Grace Slick for her band before she joined Jefferson Airplane.
They sounded like this:

Grace Slick was reputed to have refused to register her daughter because she didn't want to sign her over to the state.
This gets familiar, have we been here before?
No, sorry that's no good - it's another factual answer :-)

Cameron is the puppet of Steve Hilton and Rachel Whetstone. The Hungarian wants some grand display to make his advertising cred look worthwhile. Blair had Communitarianism and gave the bankers whatever they wanted; Cameron needs a theme to amuse the plebs while the bankers get what they want.

The Conservative Party is so toxic after Cameron it will need to be buried in a deep pit.

TBF: thanks.

W42: Nice try!

TT: True indeed.

Ok, I'll stop being a smartarse:-) I actually fully agree with you WfW. You're quite right,if you substitute 'bullshit' for 'big society' all of Cameron's pronouncements and speeches on the subject make just as much sense.

W42: Good Man! I knew I would wear you down in the end.......:o)

The Big Society means keeping cast iron guarantees made in public and in print in the best selling daily newspaper in The UK.
