And who governs the UK?

From the Mail and from the Daily Telegraph, both dated 8th June 2010.

From EurActiv dated 18th June 2011:
"In talks which lasted until 3am this morning, policymakers made headway on many parts of the package, such as how to control macroeconomic imbalances and laws allowing the European Commission to vet national budget-making."
Of course it matters not when the EU vet our budget, nor who sees it first - if it is not acceptable to our masters, the schoolboy will still have to amend and then represent his homework for approval and thus gain the cherished 'pass-mark'!

This is a national disgrace. What is the matter with eurosceptic Tory backbenchers? Why aren't Carswell, Hollobone, Cash et al banging on Cameron's door and demanding he keep his election promise and wrest powers back from the evil empire? They should threaten mass defection to UKIP. Men of principle in the past have switched parties when they could no longer live with government decisions. But then I don't suppose the likes of Carswell have the guts to follow great men like Churchill and Powell.

k: Carswell et all "Eurosceptic"? Mass defection to Ukip? k: they're politicians, its their career!

Actually, not being argumentative (heh!) I don't believe Powell ever switched parties, although he sure spoke out forcefully against his own, even on one occasion suggesting that people voted Labour!

But then Powell had principles, something our modern politicians seem to lack!

Powell left the Tory party in 1974 and joined the Ulster Unionists. I know the official title is (or was) the Conservative and Unionist party but I believe the Ulster Unionists may be a different animal. I leave myself open to correction on this if I am wrong.
I agree with your comments about the career-pursuing politicians.

I do not believe that the EDL is going to back down. They are now withdrawing their policy of cooperation with the police - justifiably so.

It is no win situation for the authorities.
