German scientists had done a great deal of high quality work by the early Thirties, identifying the link between smoking and lung cancer.
Hitler was much opposed to smoking and would have liked to ban it but thought that it would make his regime unnecessarily unpopular. He also considered the possibility of putting warnings on every cigarette packet but decided that would be too interfering and dictatorial.
ES: Have still not seen any 'evidence' that smoking causes lung cancer - or are we basing this assertion on 'statistics'?
Likewise there is no autopsy procedure that I know of that conclusively proves that smoking kills - which is what the like of ASH would have us believe.
Ditto second hand smoke - it has not been proven.
I don't deny that smoking will cause shortness of breath - but then so does asthma.
On top of which we all have to die at some stage, do we not?
