Andrew marrs his interview with Hague

I have not seen any mention in the media of Hague's referral to Adam Werritty during his interview on Andrew Marr's television programme this morning, an interview that can be seen here (Hague appears at 37:30).

In response to Marr's question whether he had met Adam Werritty Hague replied that he had not met him in his position as Foreign Secretary whilst in government - but did admit to having met him 'in passing' whilst he was Shadow Foreign Secretary. Any interviewer worth his salt would surely have seized on that statement and questioned Hague further. What does 'in passing' mean? When, where and in what scenario(s)? Did he question Fox at that time as to who Werritty was and why he was present? Knowing that Fox knew Werritty, on his appointment as Foreign Secretary and Fox's appointment as Defence Secretary, did Hague question Fox whether the relationship was on-going? Did Hague know that Werritty had accompanied Fox on trips abroad? Was Hague aware of the number of visits Werritty paid Fox at the Ministry of Defence?

Well, Mr. Hague?

Just asking.............................

Good question - hope you get an answer... what do you reckon?

TT Thanks and amended!

PP: Thanks. I know what I reckon, but what does everyone else reckon?

I reckon they all knew full well what was going on with Fox and Werrity because to a greater or lesser extent all of them are in the same position. In one way or another they are all in hock to backers and lobyists for their private incomes and perks. They are now desperately trying not to rock the boat any harder.

A little unfair, I think. In the past I've attended numerous receptions and met various people whose names I immediately forgot. Usually I had no idea why they were there or what they did, and its only later when a name gets mentioned that you recall meeting someone who was of no interest to you at the time.

W42: Methinks you have hit the nail on the head!

EP: Unfair? Someone in Hague's position is not briefed beforehand on meetings and who may be there? Someone in Hague's position does not query with his staff afterwards when he meets someone he does not know and why there were present? Come, come EP, you are not that naive surely?
