Hastings - then (2003) and now (2011)

Max Hastings has today, in the Mail, recanted his belief in our country's membership of the European Union for which recantation he is, no doubt, looking for plaudits - as no doubt he was when he wrote what, basically, was the same article in 2003. There is a common similarity in both articles - he still believes that we should be 'in' 'Europe'.

Perhaps Hastings had a hand in drafting the Conservative's policy on Europe - ie, maintaining that he is against our membership of the European Union, whilst simultaneously being "all for it"? Persevere Max, they'll make an MP of you yet........

Yonks ago, a book appeared - comedic as it was - entitled "1066 and all that", a tongue-in-cheek reworking of the history of England, one in which it was found, at the last minute, that research revealed two dates were not memorable. Hastings, having 're-worked' his previous article, must surely be wishing that the dates of 2003 and 2011 were likewise!

Just saying.............................

H/T: @WhiteWednesday, on Twitter, for researching the 2003 article!

This is the same tedious Hastings who voted Blair.....a man whose isolation from the reality of the street becomes ever more apparent in the fogeyish articles he writes.......I have no respect for Hastings even as an historian......he is simply too deluded

TT: He appears deluded also about his own importance
