From the letters column Daily Telegraph 8th September:
"SIR – A sensible solution would be to encourage more development in Scotland and Wales, where there are vast open spaces but few people. To paraphrase the film Field of Dreams, "If you build it, they will come."

From the letters column Daily Telegraph 9th September:
"SIR – Mycal Miller’s phrase, “If you build it, they will come”, caught my eye (Letters, September 8).And the answer is............?
The problem is that we are not building it, yet they are still coming.

Stop them coming!
I know Sue, simples isn't it? But then we have brains..........!
And get rid of the millions who are already here.
"If you build it, they will come."
Hmmm, Finis Connor's (hard drive maker) slogan was "Sell, design, build". The world is littered with designs developed and built at great expense which no one wanted.
In this case, the more relevant question is "Do we want them to come whether we build it or not?"
Yes. We need to get shot of unproductive non-UK citizens. That would free up lots of housing and money!
Well, in a country where Local Authorities are obliged by law to house the homeless......in a land where the Unskilled and Workless enjoy the highest living standards on the planet......and with free health care to all comers......at least £3000 pa in benefits for each child......free education in English........
Well, millions crossed The Atlantic to the USA for a golden future with none of these enticements.....and £10 Poms could only dream of such largesse
jic: Yup!
c: Nope!
TT: Nice point!
Amend the human rights act. Foreigners to enjoy as few human rights as the natives do now. They'd soon bugger off.
Forget the answer, just revel in the belly laugh that witty response provoked.
"We need to get shot of unproductive non-UK citizens"
And why not some (or all) of the unproductive UK citizens while you're at it...
Ian & md: Agree with both of you!
AM: Just what I thought, which is why I posted it.
