While 'Rome' burns........

.....while this country is subsumed further into a European State; while democracy in this country is 'trashed' not just by the EU but also by our own political elite; while our society is changed beyond all recognition; while our 'human rights' are led into a maze from which there is no escape; while our country is left virtually defenseless; while health and education are 'tinkered with', once again, to satisfy political ideology; while any sense of law and order is reduced to ridicule; while our parliament becomes but a 'talking-shop' filled with 'muppets'; while civil servants and bureaucrats are consumed with following a 'common purpose', one with no benefit to our country; while our money is used to support a currency of which we don't accept its raison-dêtre; when our prime minister once again does a 'U' turn over fiscal policing of the eurozone...........

.... the leaders of our three main political parties believe bank bonuses and chocolate oranges are the important matters 'du jour'.

To quote 'Private Jones' Fraser (so I am informed. Ed) we are indeed doomed!

H/T: Goodnight Vienna (@CallingEngland) for the initial idea for this post rant.

I think it was Private Fraser. But, yes, we are doomed; and without a scintilla of recognition by the vast majority of our nation.

jic: you are, no doubt right, but: whoever.....

(Will amend)..... and thanks for correcting me.

It was Fraser, Cpl Jones, his favourite's were; "Don't panic, don't panic" and
"the old cold steel sir, they don't like it up em!" - Now there's a thought...... .

When I first started my own blog I could see which way the wind was blowing. I tried to inform without chivying but now it's too late. It's going to get so much worse before it gets better and there will be blood shed. It sounds melodramatic, I know, but it's now too late to find a peaceable way; they just don't listen to us.

Paine: "If there must be trouble let it be in my day, that my child may have peace."

WitteringsfromWitney said...

Anon: dealt with all that......

GV: That they don't listen to us and that there will be blood is now a 'given',

Whilst not having any children of my own, it is indeed a 'paine' that children per se will not know peace until those of us who care do something about it!

OT, but NoseMonkey on Twitter pointed me at this Grauniad article on Cameron U-turn over the so-called veto. If this is true, can he really survive?

guardian.co.uk/politics/2012/jan/27/david-cameron-eu-institutions-eurozone?cat=politics&type=article

If he had any credibility left...

Article worth reading

Banks

So'H: Which is what I wrote at the end of the first para - although did not link to that Guardian article.......

As to whether Cameron will survive - yes, due to his sheep in parliament.

TT: Thanks for the link.

It's a typical "blame the banks" polemic while ignoring the role of governments - surely?

WfW, you must blame the banks. If you knew some of the actors personally you would know why. The fact that Thatcher allowed Us banks to sweep up the City and get rid of Brokers and Jobbers and Independents to breach Glass Steagall in London permitted them to lobby in the US to repeal the Act AFTER Sandy Weill and Jamie Dimon had breached the Act by buying Citicorp.

Huge amounts of money to Senators and Congressmen saw the Act repealed and Deposits used to fund Speculative Activities with FDIC Guarantee.

The Regulators and Politicians were BRIBED. So blame the Voters. You are responsible for the situation.

Myself I opposed the merger of HBOS and Lloyds as a Shareholder in both banks, The City overruled me. I am out of pocket, they get Bonuses.

You are personally responsible for Stephen Hester's bonuses because your MP is the Prime Minister who is cracking down on rewards for failure. My MP loathes Cameron so I have made my position clear.

Still, my friends are raking in million pound bonuses and I wonder why I ever thought to look at manufacturing, a sector Thatcher and the Treasury exported to China so Banking could thrive.

Did Sir Ron Cohen really fund Labour and get a favourable CGT Regime for Private Equity ? Did Hester really sell Abbey National to Santander ?

I find the notion os slick politicians running circles round bankers highly amusing. Neither are very bright, but bankers sniff money and know how cheap the People's Representatives can be bought.....duck house, blind share trust.....true Blair comes more expensive but Thatcher and Denis were for sale too.

Our country, in fact all EU countries, have embarked om a Triple suicide - political, cultural and economic.

Which of these will trigger a revolt is hard to say. But I'm betting on the cultural one.

TT: I have to admit that my knowledge of economic history is rather sparse, to say the least.......

If what you say is true, then I may have to revise my opinions.

DP111: And your bet is no doubt the right one!
