Well, that was a waste of time!

After all the indignation by the nation on MP's expenses, second homes and employing family members - and the Coalition's promise to 'clean up politics' - it would appear that the 'rules' are to be relaxed.

Politics Home:
"Rules and regulations on MPs' expenses will next week be relaxed after a ten-month campaign by MPs to get them eased. Amongst other details, the changes will allow MPs to claim more for second homes and make room for MPs with families to claim back more."
As I refuse to pay for what I consider to be public news, if any readers does have access through the Times' paywall perhaps they would 'copy 'n paste' the article in the comments to this post? Many thanks.

If the Times is correct in its reporting it would appear that I - and many others - seem to have 'blinked and missed it'. Just when did we, the people, agree to this?

The MEP expense scandal is worse.

WE didn't agree to it, but in time honoured fashion they've waited until they think we've forgotten all about the expenses issue, and assume they can get away with it....

What kind of country do we live it? Every time I think we have reached the depths of depravity, our socalled leaders take us one level lower. Troughing, secret courts, threats to individuals if they tell anyone, abduction of children by the state. My God, there is such a thing as evil and it is not only living amongst us, it is ruling over us.

A: Agreed but then they have never been held up to ridicule as have ours and never tried mea culpa and then renegaded on that.

jic: Agreed too.

md: Nothing like a good day to bury bad news, is there?
