And Ukip are doing............

So a 'mock' referendum is to be held in Witney, Sheffield Hallam and Doncaster North – the constituencies of David Cameron, Nick Clegg and Ed Miliband.

At the time of writing, mention on the Ukip website amounts to.........Zilch, Nada, Nowt! The fact that these 'mock' referendums were to be held has been known for some time now - which begs the question what Ukip branches across the country have been doing by means of preparation. Probably Zilch, Nada, Nowt - yet would not a committee of a constituency where the sitting MP was a party leader surely be interested and do their utmost to gain support for their party? Would not a party, intent on gaining support among the electorate for their policy of leaving the European Union not ensure that local committees were making preparations? Would not the leadership of that party have thought about - oh, hang on..........

UKIP - U Know Its Pointless.........

Sadly you're right, my membership has lapsed for 2 months now - what's the point?

UKIP are going to let it slip away again.

JH: they never had it in their grasp - as I have said 8%? FFS they should be 18%, if not low 20s bearing in mind the political situation!

Ouch.

I'm guessing that UKIP would argue that they have limited resources... which is probably true. As a 'smaller' party thus far, they certainly have less of a pool of 'the willing' to call upon to get things done.

I think though, looking at the post (considering I know you as the author and your dedication and endeavour), considering TBF's comment, add in my recent remarks about endless talking shops...

I *think* that all parties are suffering serious disengagement from the electorate. As nothing seems to change, I fear that UKIP does need to commit to action to ensure that it's membership numbers do not all too soon peak.

People want to see something happening. People cannot keep saying it on every available resource without it having some element of self-evident truth.

TTC: It saddens me to have to have written that which I have, however......

Where a previous chair of a branch does not renew his membership and writes to explain why - and hears nothing back speaks for itself! (Ego aside - which does not enter the equation)

Where I offer to go round branches in Oxon to talk about campaigning (which I have done as Vice-Chair of Consedrvative Sandhurst Central and seen a system that works) and to talk about Electoral Law and asking the Regional Organiser how many branches know anything about either and received the reply probably none, but I'll be in touch and then to hear nothing........!

And Ukip believe they are a force in politics? Crow about polling 8% in polls - hells bells, they should be at 18% if not low 20s bearing in mind the political situation at present!

Oh and please, not that volunteer thingy again - its all I get... and the argument is rubbish!

TTC: a ps: And when I agree a meet at his local pub in Westminster with one in touch with the heirachy and he does not appear........

As TBF said, why should we bother?

Hey WfW,

Question which follows is rather Evita-esque. Assuming UKIP do not deliver what you want and make you feel 'why other'... then where do we* go from here?

TTC (* we being = our often similar politics, my friend)

TTC: Oh, still vote for the poor saps until something better comes along...

Perhaps a new party will have to be formed, one that campaigns on and sells the idea of direct democracy and 'referism'.

It is so sad, really, because the present situation could well be Ukip's moment - unfortunately NF did what all party leaders do and surrounded himself with his sycophants - hence nothing will change, no one will challenge and any challenge and 'questions' will be 'shut out' - as I have found.....

Look at the UKIP site again - perhaps you were too hasty.

UKIP may be doing better than we think in the polls. Apparently (or so I read somewhere) pollsters give the public a choice of 4 answers regarding voting intentions: the big 3 parties and "others". "Others" are only broken down between UKIP, Green, BNP etc after someone has nominated "others". On rare occasions when UKIP and the other small parties are included as a choice in the original list they do a lot better; sometimes up to 20%. But these results are seldom posted and so the perception, come election time, is that a vote for UKIP is a wasted vote as they only have about 7% support rather than up to 20%.

k: Accepted - and so political control' expands, with the aid of a cmpliant MSM!
