The lunatics really are in charge of the asylum

An Englishman's Castle posts on a story in the Sunday Times, a report that states wind farm operators in Scotland were paid nearly £900,000 to keep their turbines idle for a night because the National Grid did not need the power.

Anna Raccoon posts on the idiocy of Sandwell Council, a story which again involves wind turbines.

Calling England notes that the Government - Eric Pickles - has only just discovered the Manche region of the European Union. Just where the hell has Pickles been since he was first elected MP for Brentwood back in 1992? Exactly how does he plan to "fight these plans, stop this waste and protect England’s national and local identities from EU empire-building"? Pickles can no more stop this than he can the incoming tide. Pickles has either had his head buried deep inside his rear orifice or he is practising the political art of disingeniousness, an artform for which he and his kind are famous.

What this country needs is more unemployed politicians!

I don't have time to blog on this issue but, just out of interest, here is a quote from Eric Pickles that you probably won't see in the MSM today ... even though the wording sounds very familiar:
“This is the political equivalent of Frankenstein’s monster, a hybrid creation of John Prescott and European Union bureaucrats. Taxpayers will be alarmed that their hard-earned cash is now being spent on literally wiping England off the map and handing power to foreign politicians who they never elected.
“This Labour-EU project needs to be stopped before these transnational regions grab real power and funding. I fear that John Prescott’s legacy of unelected and unaccountable regional assemblies in England will be the blueprint for a new masterplan - further undermining England’s cherished local and national identities, and creating a European super-state via the back door.”

That's because it was taken from CCHQ press release 1928/06 issued on the 22nd October 2006.

That kind of blows his 'haven't heard of this before' arguement out of the water. So what the f*ck has he been doing about it over the last 5 years then. Apart from eating doughnuts and croissants, of course.

Just saying ;-)

As someone who comes from a family who has lived in Hampshire and Wiltshire for over 500 years, I would just like to say that the people who think can decide our future can fuck themselves.

Not the exact wording Max, but this story does get a mention in the Mail today:
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1382263/The-EU-trying-wipe-map-Brussels-merges-England-France-new-Arc-Manche-region--FLAG.html

One of the commenter's (Alan from Leicester) said "Took you long enough to work out what we have known for years. They could not destroy us by war so now by stealth. Gutless, useless MPs."

The MP's are not gutless they are doing what they are paid for!

Stating the obvious again but what the hell.

Our MPs are a waste of time and space. They do not put our Country's interests first as they are paid to do, how do we get rid of them.

Reading MF's comment has just dispelled my belief that things could not get any worse - these people are just playing games with our lives.

WfW,

You may also want to see the attached link, quoted in the 2006 Conservative press release above:

Cross Channel Atlas : Transmarche

"The Channel simultaneously divides and joins two parts of Western Europe, which for centuries have shared common events to create a joint History. A thousand year period, beginning with the Norman invasion of England, now nears its end as that same island becomes physically linked to the continent of Europe."
