When I was a civil servant we were allowed to clain a "subsistance allowance" of a fixed amount for a meal or overnight accommodation. If it cost more that the allowance then one had to pay the extra oneself (or present a valid reason to enable one to claim the excess.

Is this still true ? Or is it only true for the minnions ?
