A bigger constitutional change than AV

James Kirkup, Daily Telegraph, reports that Lord Butler of Brockwell is accusing the Coalition that the move to fixed-term parliaments is a permanent constitutional change bigger than the shift to the Alternative Vote system, whilst complaining that the British people have not been consulted about this proposal.

What is disappointing, but to be expected, is that neither James Kirkup nor Lord Butler thought to raise the point that an even bigger constitutional change was carried out with lies and deceit in 1972 by Edward Heath and the process has been continued by successive governments of both Conservative and Labour hue.

But then what does one expect from two people who are each members of sections of a self-serving, self-congratulatory and inter-dependent cabal.

OK folks, mini-rant over.........

You forgot to mention that all it takes is another act of parliament and the fixed term is history. Our constitution is only as good as the next bill or any single government.
