The Guardian's feed?

"Sky News is reporting that a 51-year-old detective at the Metropolitan Police has been arrested at his desk and suspended on suspicion of leaking information from the phone hacking investigation team to journalists at the Guardian."
So reports Autonomous Mind who has been, justifiably, conducting what has amounted to a one-man-war against the Guardian and in particular David Leigh. Commenting at the start of AM's 'campaign' I wrote in this post:
"It is a sad fact today, when we look to our politicians and the media for truth, that the minute either one of them starts talking about integrity you know damn well they haven't any!"
Not only are there questions about the integrity of politicians and the press, it is now obvious that questions can also be asked of our police, as not only has this latest arrest been made but also insinuations of malpractice have been levied at other, more senior, police officers. Whilst those insinuations have been dismissed as unfounded, it is an unfortunate fact that in such cases there always remains a lingering doubt.

With the news that police officers are now tainted with accusations of wrong-doing (accepting that the latest police officer is, of course, to be considered innocent until proven guilty) it cannot be denied that the fabric of our society would appear rotten to the core. The honour of those that consider themselves the only ones capable of guiding our society are questionable; the honour of those appointed to ensure that the rules of our society are adhered to, are questionable; the honour of those employed to inform the public of what is happening in our society are questionable; even the honour of those employed to deal with the administration of the country are questionable.

That our nation has been brought to such a nadir of debasement by those whose integrity, honour and principle should be beyond question, is indeed to be mourned - that those whose lack of integrity, honour and principle appear to have cowed the people to the extent that they appear not to notice that which is happening around them, should be hounded from office, 'sacked' and vilified.

"Sometimes it is said that man can not be trusted with the government of himself. Can he, then, be trusted with the government of others? Or have we found angels in the forms of kings to govern him? Let history answer this question."

Thomas Jefferson.

In other words, never trust the government.

WfW.Could not agree more. Honour is only a word in a dictionary now, something to look up and muse over having passed into disuse.

That it has left the British establishment completely can only be mourned.

Dr North has come to the same conclusion, albeit in a slightly different tack as he reports this lack of honour right across Europe as the primary reason for a low grade civil war.

Trooper T: Nice quote, must file that one away for future use.

IanPJ: Thanks - what is also worth mourning is the people, who having been cowed, no longer have the backbone to fight any more....

Global Warming Could Prompt Alien Attack: NASA

By Elvira Veksler | August 19, 2011 11:52 AM EDT

Scientists said Thursday that "extraterrestrial environmentalists" could become so angry about what we have done to the planet that they may see us a threat to the intergalactic ecosystem -- and take action by attacking Earth.

"Humanity may just now be entering the period in which its rapid civilizational expansion could be detected by an ETI because our expansion is changing the composition of Earth's atmosphere (e.g. via greenhouse gas emissions), which therefore changes the spectral signature of Earth," the study added.

http://www.ibtimes.com/articles/200769/20110819/alien-attack-nasa-global-warming.htm

So if we do not believe in AGW and act on it now by increasing taxation to zillions, alien environmentalists will attack.

The Leftists and Warmists are getting so desperate that they are prepared to invoke alien attack.

Pass it on to Richard North. He might like it.

Really ? When did they ever ?

The greatest challenges to Power in England were always from a small minority - whether 1642, 1688, 1848, 1914....

Maybe we don't recognise Resistance to Power because we don't want to - Student Protests, Countryside Alliance March, Riots, even dare I say it, 7/7 which to some groups was resistance to wars that not many Britons seem to support but were foisted on them

So, if someone had blown up trains in Germany in 1939 - as opposed to a planned coup (vetoed by London) in 1938 - would it have been condemned, as the planned coup was ?

I mean, do we actually recognise resistance or do we want it to be in the form of a golf club debate ?

The leaking of information by police officers is not new, it has always been the case, what is new is the apparent scale of it and I suspect I know where that stems from. For the last couple of decades the police have actively courted the media, inviting TV crews on dawn raids, giving special briefings and access, calling press conferences, etc. What they don't realise, or more likely refuse to consider, is that this behaviour legitimises the dissemination of information by ordinary officers, in the minds of those officers, of course, not in legal terms. Those officers probably even think they are 'helping' the force and what harm is there in getting a few quid for something the brass would approve of, unofficially of course, if they knew? And let's face it, there is no doubt the brass does know when information is being leaked and I know of no reports of investigations other than cases where such leaks were made to criminals.

Few proverbs are truer than this one: "The fish rots from the head down."

DP111: Not really off topic as I believe the Guardian, Leach et all who work for that paper are not of this planet......... :)

TT: You are correct of course and silly me for misuse of the English Language - but I'm sure you knew what I meant (I hope).

As a matter of interest I have already been taken to task on twitter for the phrase "the fabric of our society" and it was suggested on the same media that maybe "the fibre of our societal apple would appear rotten to the core" was nearer the mark......

PC: You too of course are correct in your comment. The quote seems endemic throughout all our politicians, public services etc.
