Mickle, Muckle (and a Merkel)

Many a mickle makes (or 'maks') a muckle' is a curious, I believe, Scottish saying of antiquity, although it is also common in the North of England and not entirely unknown elsewhere.  When considering 'mickle' and 'muckle' it stands to reason that all that needed adding was a 'merkel'.......

The saying "Many a mickle makes a muckle" means 'many of one thing makes another, larger, thing' and therein, no doubt, lies Angela Merkel's ardent wish to see the European Union prosper.

From the Number 10 website we learn that David Cameron has been in telephone contact with Angela Merkel about the current instability in European and American stock markets.

And there was me thinking that the post of Paymaster General was presently held by Francis Maude.....

Or it means that many small errors eventually end up making one large catastrophe.

Forget Merkel - she is toast. Watch Peer Steinbrueck - he tells it as it is and will be more resolute than Angie The Clueless "I Want To Stay in Power Whatever" and have little time for Cameron
