Democracy in action? (2)

"Democracy is the only system that persists in asking the powers that be whether they are the powers that ought to be."
Sydney J. Harris (American Journalist and Author)

Further to the 'Merkozy' summit meeting at the Elysee Palace on 16th August, Bill Cash has an article on ConservativeHome in which he calls for a referendum, whilst castigating David Cameron and George Osborne for having agreed that France and Germany should accelerate fiscal union in the eurozone. Cash rightly maintains that such an outcome would not necessitate a referendum under the European Union Act 2011 - also known as the 'Referendum Bill' - as Section 4 of that Act would evade the need for such.

The European Union Act 2011 is yet another piece of legislation in which control of the people by the political elite is cemented even further - whilst being sold as the exact opposite - and is further proof of the fact that we live under a system of democratised dicatorship. According to the parliament website the public elect MPs to represent their interests - but if it is obvious that a government and MPs are ignoring the public will on matters of constitutional importance (EU membership for example) then where is any sense of democracy?

The fact that the present system of democracy persists in asking the powers that be whether they are the powers that ought to be is more than justification for the change which some of us are seeking.

Just saying...................

I don't think you can be a Representative on Constitutional Matters, only a Delegate.
