Oh, the hyprocrisy (Falkland Islands 'matter', but the UK......?

So David Cameron has sent his 'Christmas Message' to the Falkland Islanders; a news item covered by the Mail, Telegraph and Guardian. From the No10 website we read the actual message, part of which states:
"So let me be absolutely clear. We will always maintain our commitment to you on any question of sovereignty. Your right to self-determination is the cornerstone of our policy. We will never negotiate on the sovereignty of the Falkland Islands unless you, the Falkland Islanders, so wish. No democracy could ever do otherwise."
So the right to self-determination of the Falkland Islanders trumps the right to self-determination of the people of his own country? This is a man who will never negotiate on the sovereignty of the Falkland Islanders, yet will do so on behalf of the people of the United Kingdom? This is the man who would give the Falkland Islanders a say on any change to their sovereignty, but not those in his own country?

It would indeed be a lovely Christmas present were just one MP (any of the 'eurosceptic' Tories listening?) to 'pick-up' the hypocrisy of his statement - likewise just one 'journalist' 'copy 'n paste merchant' of the MSM.

That David Cameron is a two-faced 'man of questionable parentage' is now plain for all to see!

No true democracy would countenance having a politician such as Cameron, MilibandE, Clegg - and about 647 others...............

Now, where did I put that 'Uzi' I got on my last trip to Tel Aviv.................

So how to cement Daves pledge. Well in the near future he could despatch HMS Cohesion backed up by HMS Diversity to give johnny foreigner a short sharp lesson in hostility avoidence and anger management techniques.

That'll teach 'em.

good post WFW but alas even if his words carried conviction WTF could we do about it if Argentina invaded again?

we might well have some carriers eventually but aint got no planes to fly from them and I can't see the poison dwarf Sarkozy lending us any super entendards complete with pilots can you?

we aint got enough soldiers left now to meet current commitments in the pointless stupid adventures we've been led into never mind finding enough to retake East and West Falkland should they fall...and more importantly Argentina knows it and so does her allies.........

were a joke now...total utter joke and as a former soldier I despise politicians and their lies....good job we have loads of lampposts....

WFW, if you wear a burkha you should be able to smuggle a box of grenades, several RPGs, and a small tank through customs next time.

I know what you're getting at - the situation here with the EU, which others seem to have missed.

It's not quite the same though - we don't have the threat of boots on the ground here yet.

However, I'm entirely with you in terms of wanting out of the EU. I think the situation is far too nuanced, at least as far as most of our politicians are concerned, anyway. They play cautiously, perhaps driven by what they might personally lose as much as the complicated power games that go on.

Happy Christmas.

Bah.

Bingobax: thanks - although take your point. Smoke and mirrors.......?

IH: Me in a burka? C'mon........!

im: What do you mean we don't have boots on the ground? Not physically maybe, but metaphocally......? C'mon, government, the civil service and quangos are riddled with them!

If I was a Falkland Islander I would not be in the least reassured by Cameron's posturing, for that is what I have no doubt it was.

I would remind bingobax that around 90% of our losses in the last unpleasantness were caused by French supplied exocets and as far as I know they were extremely unhelpful in providing information that might have made it easier for us to counter them.

Argentina is not stupid, they know that British military policy has ensured that, should they manage to get troops onto the islands, we would no longer be able to evict them without extensive third party assistance. And since I doubt Pr. Obama would even consider assisting us in such an endeavour that path is effectively blocked.

PC: Agree with all your points. It would indeed be 'interesting', were the Argentines to invade to see who would come to our aid (the EU?). Where military considerations were concerned, that would put DC under the 'spotlight'! In a way 'bring it on.....

If there was one event that would probably guarantee Cameron being turfed out of office it would be an invasion of our 'territory', thus forcing a general election. Unfortunately, the alternative government that awaits us, is.....?

We are well and truly 'procreated'!

One of the most skillful piss-takes I have ever read by a politician of the people he serves. A pity more people don't have the intelligence to realise this and then treat him and his fellow travellers in the appropriate manner.
