I put the question because if we can't control how our own damn airports operate, what can we control?*
First, from the Guardian of May 30, 2011:
"EU transport commissioner, Siim Kallas, said "We have been concerned that the current system of allocating takeoff and landing slots at airports is inefficient, giving rise to delays and congestion. "This has now been confirmed by today's report, showing that up to 28 million more passengers could travel ech year through Europe's airports." The commissioner said he intended to propose legislation this year to tackle the issue."
Second, lo and behold, a press release, dated today, "Better Airports" which states:
"The European Commission today announced a comprehensive package of measures to help increase the capacity of Europe's airports, reduce delays and improve the quality of services offered to passengers. The measures address the quality of services passengers and airlines receive on the ground before they take off and after they land (for example, baggage handling, check-in, refuelling), the transparency of decisions on airport noise, as well as the efficiency of the complex network of take-off and landing slots that make up every journey."

I can feel it in my bones WfW…
EU announces new EU wide airport/ticket tax…
Think of the benefits…
It's green…
It's easy to collect…
And, of course, it's voluntary… we don't need to travel.
Airport Security could be reduced to the levels at Athens and Rome to speed up departures !
