If British homes were built to German standards private rental would also be a much more attractive option, allowing people to move for work much more easily. It has always been like that in the UK. There were some well-built solid houses built during the 30s, ror instance, but there was a lot of speculative cardboard mock Tudor too.Catherine in Athensnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8861279106331108648.post-7954818088873447722011-09-09T00:27:03.511-07:002011-09-09T00:27:03.511-07:00Nominative Determinism is alive and well.Nominative Determinism is alive and well.Chucklesnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8861279106331108648.post-8893211561178606552011-09-08T10:30:00.819-07:002011-09-08T10:30:00.819-07:00Edward Fiddler - great name in that context.Edward Fiddler - great name in that context.James Highamhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14525082702330365464noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8861279106331108648.post-4987888874876399002011-09-08T10:29:34.369-07:002011-09-08T10:29:34.369-07:00Germany and Sweden seem to be the doyens of Self-B...Germany and Sweden seem to be the doyens of Self-Build with regular comparisons of quality on German TV. Once the huge margins of National Builders are taken out there is so much less to spend on kickbacks.

The quality of housebuilding in the UK is poor but the margins are glorious. It is astounding what the British are prepared to borrow to buy off-the-peg housesTomTomnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8861279106331108648.post-6803659410774415302011-09-08T10:09:27.197-07:002011-09-08T10:09:27.197-07:00Ian: Point taken, but sorry that the humour of the...Ian: Point taken, but sorry that the humour of the post appears to have passed you by.......WitteringsfromWitneyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16026875251366365154noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8861279106331108648.post-2548246781146490752011-09-08T09:53:33.958-07:002011-09-08T09:53:33.958-07:00The "travellers'" shacks are so badl...The "travellers'" shacks are so badly built that they would never have got building consent if this had been applied for.
